BIOGRAPHY

DJ Nick Burke got his musical start with piano lessons at the age of 8 and began singing in the local church choir with his Dad. By age 14 he had learned to play piano, guitar and bass guitar. At age 16 he joined his first "rock" group and began performing at local school dances and teen clubs.

After completing school(UMD), he did a tour in the US Air Force where he became an electronics technician. Immediately following an honorable discharge, this Vietnam Era vet started work at NASA/GSFC in Greenbelt,MD in computers and joined another musical group, a show band named "The Sentries." The group was one of Baltimore's top drawing dance bands and backed up numerous big name recording acts like The Platters, Chubby Checker, Mary Wells, the Drifters, jazz singer Ethel Ennis, Danny and the Juniors, Percy Sledge and Otis Redding just to name a few. It was during his days as a musician, that Nicky-B developed his showmanship and audience interaction skills as an MC and vocalist. It was this experience that enabled him to become more than just an ordinary DJ.

With all his musical, electronics, computer knowledge and talent, it was a natural transition for Nicky-B to begin a DJ service. In late May of 1987, he started Sound Decision DJs and became very busy on the wedding, anniversary, school and social club circuits. Being a so called "techie", Nicky-B has always remained ahead of the curve with the gear of his new trade. As music technology changed from vinyl records and cassette tapes to CDs and computer files, he kept expanding the overall capabilities and services he offered, well beyond just playing music.

Sound Decision DJs gave way to Nicky-B Entertainment which now includes all of that such as large screen video projection with MTV style music videos, "real time" camera action shown on the big screens, customized slideshows, a multi-decade MP3 music library, a full karaoke library, computer controlled intelligent lighting and decorative lightscapes. He also uses an arsenal of special effects to enhance just about any type of event.

With his accumulated expertise, Nicky-B has become one of the nations most knowledgeable and sought after DJs. He has written technical articles for both Mobile Beat magazine and DJ Times magazine and has been the "gear & equipment moderator" at Start.MobileBeat.com since 1996, answering tech questions for other DJs through out the USA, Canada and abroad. He gives seminars about intelligent light programming and control for DJ's that use similar computer technology. He was a well known and highly respected, member of the American Disc Jockey Association and an active member of the local Baltimore Area Disc Jockey Association. He has become a national asset to the professional DJ industry and hopefully will continue to be a pioneer as the new millennium progresses!
